Top 10 Tips for Caring for your Skin in the Honeymoon Sun
by our Skin Care Consultant and member of the Ribbons and Pearls team, Karine Antinoro
We all have a million things to do everyday and especially when your big day is just around the corner. Probably by now your honeymoon may have been booked, whether in the U.K or abroad. So let's take a little time to think about how to prepare our skin before flying off to hot sunny destinations and how to care for it on our return.
- Always wear a moisturiser with a Sun Protection Filter (SPF) after your daily cleansing and toning, as it helps fight the damaging effects of the sun even in winter.
- Your face and your body require different products, your face requires SPF 30 and your body SPF 15 with a UVA filter. Even people with dark skin should never use anything lower than an SPF 15.
- Apply sunscreen a good 20 minutes before stepping out and use liberal amounts.
- Common places to miss are: feet and ear lobes (especially if you have short hair)
- Even if it is overcast, don't be fooled, 80% of UV can pass through the clouds, so slap it on...
- Keep those peepers sparkling by not forgetting to wear sunglasses as sun can damage the skin around the eye area and a broad brimmed hat 'a la Joan Collins'!
- Re-apply your sun cream, during a two-week stay and exposed to the sun on a daily basis, you should expect to go through two (8 fl oz) of protection, so slap it on throughout the day.
- We are all eager to sit out in the sun the moment we arrive because we miss it so, which is fine but take it easy. Never lie in full sun for more than four hours and take cover during the hottest part of the day. Always have plenty of water with you and take small sips rather than big gulps.
- Try not to wear fragrance that contains alcohol when sunbathing as it can result in your skin becoming dry and sensitive, so opt for an eau-de-toilette of your favourite fragrance.
- Apply generous amount of after-sun after showering and continue this on your return home, this will prolong your tan and keep your skin moisturised too.
Follow these tips to prepare and hydrate your skin, ready for the sunshine!
