Food for Hair to Glow and Grow

by our Skin Care Consultant and member of the Ribbons and Pearls team, Karine Antinoro

Our hair reflects the overall state of our health. Dull and unhealthy looking hair is often an indication of poor nutritional intake, so I have put together a list of foods and their values to help hair glow and grow.

  • Nuts - Pecans, Walnuts and Brazils all contain a mineral called Selenium and together with Zinc will help towards a healthy scalp and prevent hair falling out.
  • Oily Fish - Salmon,  packed with Omega 3 and Vitamin B12 and Iron, prevents dry scalp and dull locks. For vegetarians, Walnuts or Flaxseed are also packed with Omega 3.
  • Dark Green Vegetables - Broccoli, Green Beans, Pak Choi, Spinach and Cabbage are all full of Vitamin A and C and will act as a hair conditioner known as Sebum.
  • Orange-coloured Goodies: Carrots, Sweet Potatoes and dried Apricots all have Beta Carotene, which the body turns into Vitamin A and produces Sebum, but go easy with these foods as too much can lead to dry scalp and dandruff.
  • Beans and Pulses - These Legumes prevent hair from becoming brittle and promotes hair growth.
  • Chicken - Contains high quality Protein and Iron as well as Vitamin B preventing hair becoming weak.
  • Eggs - Full of Protein, Biotin and Vitamin B12, also good for healthy skin.
