Are you suffering like me from over-processed straw-like hair, and have tried every product out there but still not found the right solution? Are you approaching your wedding and at your wits end to know how to get your hair to stop being wispy?  Well, the good news is that I have found the solution!  Biolustre is a new hair repair system which rebuilds your hair's missing keratin coating to replace body, smoothness and shine. Before thinking about selling it to you, I needed to try it out and was kindly invited to Paul Edmonds Hair and Beauty in Knightsbridge to have it professionally applied, so that I could tell you all about it first hand. You can read about the experience here.

My visit to the salon was great.  I was cared for and everything was explained clearly by Zoë, one of the senior stylists. I asked all about doing the treatment at home, so now I will describe what happened and I have added tips for doing it at home.

My hair was first washed, towel dried and combed through. Next the Biolustre lotion was applied as follows:

• Put on gloves
• Using a palette brush of the kind usually used to apply colour.  Divide hair into sections:
  • Part hair at back in middle
  • Part each half into a quarter section
  • Work on each section making sure other hair is held out of the way, clips are useful and you may find it easier if you get a little help from a friend
• Apply to ends of hair only, on hair that is damaged.  Leave at least an inch (2.5 cm) from the scalp. Then secure the section in a flat clip and move onto the next quarter section.
• When all four sections are done on the first side, divide the second side of your hair into four, apply lotion then work the other side in exactly the same way.
• Once the hair is covered it needs to be dried by a hair dryer until dry and rock solid.  An ideal purchase to make this work is a hairdryer hood converter.
• When the hair is completely dry it feels like it has been set with super glue and is quite scary.  Be very careful not to bend it as hair is brittle at this stage and can break off.
• Remove the clips and start to rinse with water which is as hot as you can tolerate.  The hair begins to soften with the heat of the water.
• Apply shampoo and rinse three times in a row.  Your hair will feel horrible and sticky and rough until all the excess keratin is out. Once your hair starts to separate and can be lathered up, rinse and apply conditioner.
• Dry with a hair dryer as usual and tong or straighten with heat if needed. A hot brush works too.

The result?  Your hair feels the same, though maybe it will be a bit shinier, until it has been washed a couple more times.  Then you suddenly notice the difference, especially when hot brushed - it feels wonderful!  I am completely convinced that this product is great and that my hair has never looked in better condition. The plus side of course is that the treatment is almost permanent; it will take up to 6 colours or 6 perms before the condition is as poor as it was before you applied it. Then you just apply again.
